This is me and my grandson Ronin :) I'm probably the only Sami person you will ever meet, outside of Sweden's far north. My great-grandfather was a reindeer herder.

Rates for The Cottage... $150 per night, no minimum length of stay, no extra charges, pets welcome.

An interesting fact about our neighborhood... Prosper Village used to have a school, a fish cannery, a wood mill, a store, and a post office. Many of the building were linked with wooden sidewalks so folks wouldn't get wet feet going to school or the store. When the mill burned, all the machinery fell down into the mud of the Coquille River (where I suppose it sits, waiting for an archaeological expedition). Many of the pilings are still there, and we refurbished some to attach our floating dock to!

It has been said that there were once so many fish in the river, you could walk across the river on their backs! Loads of fishermen still haul Steelhead and other salmon out of the river several times a year during runs.

Our house was built in 1906 by Axel Sandstrom, a Swedish sailor who wrecked his ship on the Bandon jetty, swam ashore, and proceeded to build most of the houses in the neighborhood. We found a shingle up in the porch crawlspace, signed by him in pencil on "The 17th of Augusty, 1906", presumably the day when he finished the house. The Cottage next door may have been built in 1912, but we don't have hard evidence yet.

The Bandon History Museum is a great place to see pictures of the area. Most of Bandon burned in a big fire in 1936, but Prosper Village didn't burn because local people got up on the roofs with wet burlap bags and put out the hot embers that landed there.

Here's Bandon's working boat basin, with shopping and dining nearby. Sometimes you can buy fresh fish right off the boat from the fisherman/woman.

Alexander's River Cottage has cable t.v., electric heat and woodburning stove (including all the Port Orford White Cedar you can burn!). One queen bed, one full bed, two twin beds, and a comfy full sized convertible couch. Refrigerator, stove, pots and pans, toaster, dishware, microwave, coffee maker, two bathrooms.

Here are some folks crabbing at the Old Town Bandon dock. Located between beautiful Bandon-by-the-Sea and our world class golf course, Bandon Dunes. Bring your boat and tie up to our private dock on the Coquille River, catch some of those delicious salmon and crabs! WAY too much to do here... horseback riding, kayaking, four wheeling on the dunes, rentals all available.
